Currently we are adding the IOWA test as a form of standardized testing for our students. We do not take the FCAT at Boca Prep. Below are previous scores:
2009 PSAT Scores at Boca Prep International School
The Preliminary Scholastic Achievement test is taken for the first time in 9th grade at Boca Prep International School to accustom students to the demands of the SAT, for which training is provided in 10th grade. 37 students took this test of whom 28 students were working in their second or third language. In fact, several of the students were only in their second or third year studying a full curriculum in English. We are pleased to note that the top scores are improving every year, as is the number of students scoring better than the 50th percentile. The Mean varies considerably year to year as it can be unduly influenced by a recently arrived International student.
1) Critical Reading Component:
Top score 60 at the 94th Percentile (Asian American student)
10 students (27% ) scored better than the 70th percentile
Arithmetic mean 44, just under the 50th percentile, obviously skewed by the number of children still learning English vocabulary and Grammar
2) Math component (also affected by the fact that many of our International students found the English difficult or in 9th grade had not received the same exposure to Maths.)
Top score 74 at the 98th Percentile
10 students (27%) were above the 70th percentile and four above the 90th
Arithmetic mean 47, about the 55th percentile.
3) Writing skills (heavily skewed by second and third language students)
Top score 65 at the 98th Percentile
6 students scored better than the 70th percentile
Mean score 43, just below the 50th percentile. This is the section that most students found hardest for obvious reasons. However 15 students (41%) scored better than the 50th percentile which, considering the language backgrounds, was a remarkable achievement. (Boca Prep International School currently has students from 43 different nations.)
